Walk the Royal Mile
The Royal Mile is a medieval highway with many popular sites and attractions, right in the heart of the city. At one end you have Edinburgh Castle; one of the most recognizable landmarks of the city. A popular time to visit is at 1pm for the firing of the gun. Inside are plenty of historical artefacts including the ‘Scottish Crown Jewels’. Perched on top of an extinct volcano, the castle is also the perfect spot to enjoy sweeping views of the city.
At the other end of the Royal Mile is Holyrood Palace; the Queen’s official residence in Scotland and which is currently exhibiting “A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex”. Other sites include St Giles’ Cathedral and the Heart of Midlothian, the Real Marys Kings Close (which is hidden beneath the streets of this thoroughfare), The Scotch Whisky Experience, The Scottish Parliament building and Camera Obscura and World of Illusions.
We recommend purchasing the Royal Edinburgh Ticket of you are going to visit particular sites for ‘skip the line’ tickets and 48-hour access to the cities ‘hop on hop off’ sightseeing bus. Ask us for further details.
