St Aubin, Jersey
The enchanting fishing village of St Aubin, Jersey has to be on everyone’s to do list. A sweeping bay gives way to this lovely little town where the promenade — the Bulwarks — leads you to restaurants with shaded alfresco courtyards, decks, and bars with harbour views. Seafood is, of course, the speciality, and what a place to enjoy it, all washed down with a glass of wine or a pint of the island’s Liberation Ale.
Enjoy a pint in The Old Court House Inn, which was the favourite local of Jim Bergerac in the iconic 80s TV Series. St Aubin will not disappoint the foodies amongst us, and if you fancy picking up some local produce for a picnic, La Belle Gourmande comes highly recommended.
Exploring a little further into the heart St Aubin shows off its proud heritage, with its merchants’ houses, dating back to the 18th century, lining the cobbled streets. If you time it right, you will see around the Parish Hall’s central square, farm and craft markets and vintage fairs, which are very popular and help to create a buzz in the town. Shops range from galleries to independent boutiques and arts and crafts shops.
If you want to explore further, continue on the old railway line, through wooded valleys, to the headland above Corbiere Lighthouse. Bikes are also available to rent, and are a great way to explore the local area. For accommodation in St Aubin, the Somerville Hotel is a firm favourite with Prestige guests.
