Experience Braemar’s Highland Games
The Braemar Gathering is an event which always gets a lot of international attention and with good reason. The Gathering is typically attended by members of the reigning monarchy with the Queen as patron and is the best attended Highland Games. Highlights include traditional highland dancing with pipe bands and the strong events include ‘tossing the caber’, ‘throwing the hammer’ and ‘putting the stone’. There will be plenty of kilts and there are children’s events including a sack race and tug of war.
The event is always held pm the first Saturday in September in the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park in Braemar. The town of Braemar is just a 2-hour drive for Edinburgh, so we recommend combining your attendance at the Gathering with a city break in the capital. Book early to avoid disappointment!
