Introducing our expert – Will Wagstaff

By February 13, 2019People

Will is the islands’ resident ornithologist and naturalist and leading authority on all things flora and fauna in the Isles of Scilly. Will first began leading guided wildlife walks in the Scillies in 1985 and since then his work has taken him around the world including Europe, North Africa, South America and most recently, Antarctica. After spending eight years as a conservation officer and guide for the Wildlife Trust, Will then started his own business; Island Wildlife Tours.

Will’s guided walks are available to pre-book for just the day, or for longer. Typically tours to the “off islands” depart from St Mary’s quay at 09.45 and from Porthcressa Bank at 10.00 for the St Mary’s walk every weekday morning between April and October.

Itineraries can vary from week to week and are tide and weather dependent, but you can expect to see a variety of flora and fauna on each tour. On Tresco, you can see inland pools and stop at the hides to view resident and migrant waterfowl. In Bryher, you will see an island of two halves, first exploring the sheltered southern beaches, passing via the pool to the wild and rugged Hell Bay in the afternoon. For more details visit –

Will also gives a slideshow presentation most Saturday evenings in the Church Hall, St Mary’s (payable locally, approximately £5 per person). Please visit his website before you travel for more up to date information, as on some dates during the year Will will not be running these tours due to prior commitments.

Will has become a familiar and much loved face at Prestige Holidays and also leads our escorted groups on the islands – click here for more info.
